Thumbs up or Thumbs down?

Who doesn’t love Social Media? Somebody??? Anybody??? I didn’t think so. I personally am a huge fan of social media. Most sites are free, allow you to reconnect with old friends and make new friends all over the world that share common interests. It’s a win-win for everyone. I am very fortunate to be a part of the amazing crafting community on Facebook as well as You Tube. In a short period of time I have made wonderful new friends from all over the world. It is however a double edge sword. Social Media is also an open invitation for cyber bullies to leave their negative mark on your work. One of the wonderful Facebook groups I belong to is the Victoria Marie Facebook Group. It is a lovely group of crafty ladies and we have a fantastic time discussing all sorts of topics(mostly Scrapbooking related.) Over the last week or so we have been chatting away about Cyber bullying. This is not a new topic for us. We’ve discussed this before however this week we’ve had some fun while discussing. It all began with a post from our Ringleader Victoria. She posted a comment regarding a Haul video she had posted on her You Tube channel which had received a thumbs down. Seriously???? That simple comment sparked a war. Well.. not really a war, more like lots of fun chitchatting and hilarious photos. Lots of group members, including myself immediately commented and agreed with Victoria. We have all come to the same conclusion: Cyber bullies. What do Cyber bullies do? They use electronic posting(which means hiding behind their computer or device) mainly on Social Media sites for leaving mean-spirited comments or attempting to degrade someone’s hard work or opinions, this is often done anonymously. Now, no mean comments were left on the video however a thumbs down is just as mean and it is done anonymously. Our humorous conversation and the fun photos we were all posting led me to create the Scrapbooking Layout you see in this post. As some of you may know, I post Layout Process Videos on my You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDVTHwKrwq8LO9_FTaAXsVg. So I went on to post my Process Video for this Layout on my channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRgpWlZpp_Q. Shortly after my video had been posted I received a thumbs down and a few days later I received a second one. It makes me laugh, after all there is really nothing I can do about it. I don’t even know who it was. In my video I discussed this topic and I believe I was very nice about the situation. After all there is no need to be mean, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I even expressed that if someone feels I am doing something wrong I would like to know so that I can fix it. Constructive criticism is a positive thing. I like to think of myself as a positive person, I do my best to encourage and support everyone in our groups and in the Crafting community. If I come by a video, layout, or post I don’t particularly agree with or enjoy I simply move on to another. There’s no need to be negative, after all, you as a viewer have no idea how simple or difficult it was for that person to share their work. I can only speak for myself but as I was recording and posting my very first video on You Tube my nerves were in a state on constant tension. I didn’t know how the world would react to my work. Stage fright was not my only concern, I had so many technical difficulties I came very close to giving up. Its been a few months since I began making videos and the process  is not as stressful but it does require time and lots of it. I, myself have a full time job working 6 days a week, I am also a full time mom of two boys. I don’t have tons of free time but when I do I enjoy Scrapbooking and making the videos. I love to share my work and any new techniques that I have picked up. Aside from a few thumbs down here and there I have received such great, positive feedback from my viewers and that keeps me going. You be the judge. Please take a look at my video and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRgpWlZpp_Q
